Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 18, 2026
Essentialis ("we", "us", "the app") is an AI-assisted digital wardrobe and personal stylist. We take your privacy seriously and designed the product to collect the minimum data needed to make it useful — and to give you full control over that data at any time.
1. What we collect
Account information
- Your email address, name, and a stable user ID provided by Apple or Google when you sign in.
- Your language and appearance preferences.
- Subscription status (free / Premium) if you choose to subscribe.
Wardrobe content
- Photos of clothing items you upload or capture.
- Tags you add manually (category, color, brand, price, notes, etc.).
- Outfits you assemble and wear logs you create.
- Optional style preferences and dress occasions you select during onboarding.
Device and usage data
- Crash reports (you can disable these in Settings → Privacy).
- Anonymous usage analytics — what features you open and how often (you can disable these in Settings → Privacy).
- Device model, operating system version, and app version for debugging.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not access your contacts, phone state, or location unless you explicitly grant permission for a specific feature (for example, local weather).
- We do not sell your data to advertisers.
- We do not show advertising inside the app.
2. How we use your data
- To deliver core features — store your wardrobe, suggest outfits, track wear logs, calculate cost-per-wear.
- To call our AI provider (Anthropic Claude) when you tap "Generate outfit" or upload a photo for tagging. Photos are sent in a compressed JPEG format. The provider processes the image and returns suggestions; they do not retain training data unless you opt in to model improvement.
- To send you push notifications you have enabled (morning outfit, weather alerts, calendar events). You can disable each type individually.
- To fix bugs and improve the app via aggregated, anonymous crash and analytics data.
3. Third-party services we use
- Anthropic Claude — AI model that generates outfit suggestions and tags items from photos.
- Apple Sign In / Google Sign In — to let you create an account without a password.
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, crash reporting, and anonymous analytics.
- RevenueCat — to manage subscriptions on iOS and Android securely.
- Apple WeatherKit / OpenWeatherMap — weather data used in outfit suggestions, when location is granted.
Each provider has its own privacy policy and processes data in accordance with applicable laws (GDPR, CCPA).
4. AI training opt-out
By default, your photos and outfit feedback are not used to train any AI model. You can review and explicitly opt in to share anonymized feedback in Settings → Privacy → "Allow AI training". Toggling it off applies immediately and erases any pending training queue.
5. Where your data lives
- A local copy of your wardrobe is stored on your device for offline access.
- A synchronized copy is stored on our backend infrastructure (EU-based servers) so you can access your wardrobe from multiple devices.
- Photos are stored in encrypted object storage; access is restricted to your authenticated account.
- If you use iCloud or Google Drive backups on your device, those services may also store an additional copy under your control.
6. Your rights
Under GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California) you have the right to:
- Access — see all data we hold about you. Use Settings → Data → Export.
- Export — download your wardrobe as CSV / JSON / a photo archive at any time, free of charge.
- Correct — edit any item, outfit, or profile field directly in the app.
- Delete — request full deletion. See Delete account for the in-app and web flow.
- Object — disable analytics, crash reporting, or AI training individually.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting features you continue to use.
7. Data retention
We keep your data only while your account is active. When you delete your account, we wipe your data from active systems immediately and from backups within 30 days. Anonymized crash and analytics data may persist for up to 12 months and cannot be re-associated with you.
8. Children
Essentialis is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we materially change how we handle your data, we will notify you in the app and by email before the change takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
